it's been a long time...

all i can do is apologise for my lack of blogging lately, i don't really have any good excuse!

well.. a lot has gone on since i last posted, and i guess part of the reason why i haven't been blogging is because up until now i've not really been allowed to talk about it.

mum went for her hysterectomy july 20th i think it was, all went well- the surgeons even complimented her on how fit and trim she is- well, up until all this kicked off she was still going to the gym multiple times a week- which considering she's gonna be 60 next birthday is really good going. she actually recovered so well she got released from hospital 2 days earlier than planned, which i guess was a good and a bad thing... the good is obviously you heal better in your own environment, the bad was that they were in the middle of getting all the bathrooms redone, and so builders were in and out and not much peace was had!

but on the day mum went for her operation, as i was nervously waiting on news as to how it had gone, I got a text from Paul to say he'd been made redundant with immediate effect.

to be honest, i think i had a bit of an internal emotional breakdown, it was just too much to deal with in one day and i don't think i offered paul anywhere near the amount of support he needed coz i just detached myself from reality for a bit, it was the only way i could cope with everything that was going on. to add to the stress, I was on my final placement of year 1 and still had a 2000 word essay to write!

but life carries on, Paul found a new job pretty quickly, it's in Livingston, which is a total bugger coz now childcare has become a huge issue, mum's test results from the biopsies from the operation didn't come back great so she's now having chemotherapy in addition to the radiotherapy and the brachytherapy- but so far she's dealing with it really well, they said the fact she was in such good health before would really pay off during the chemo, and so far that's proved to be right. I did finish my placement and I did finish my essay - and I passed it too! in fact i passed everything in year 1 in the first sitting, so i am progressing into year 2 without anything hanging over me.

so it's onwards and upwards for all of us just now, I'm going into year 2 as of tomorrow, which i am really starting to get nervous about - not so much for the workload etc, but more because we don't have that safety net of "oh i'm just a 1st year" to protect us anymore! lol

I am continuing to Zumba as much as my bank account and uni timetable will let me- yeah some things never change... i've just ordered myself a couple of zumba tops from the new season range just launched, and i'm in the process of jazzing up some tops for one of my local instructors which I'm really enjoying getting into again. i'm even remembering to take pics of the process this time too!

oh yes, and another new development, one which will probably not come as a surprise to most, but I've got a new pet - a lovely wee hamster who's been named Lucy - she's a little feisty bugger though, escaped from her box before we even got home and hid in the workings between the gearstick and the dash of the car, it took me over an hour to coax her out! i've not even begun to try to tame her yet, still letting her settle in and get used to all the noises of the house first. i've had 4 male hamsters before but never had a female, and already i've noticed quite a difference in temperaments between the sexes... this could prove to be fun!
